A problem occured with a customer when he upgraded the database server from MS SQL 2000 to MS SQL 2005.
CRM was unable to communicate with the Metabase database. After a bit of troubleshooting, I found out that CRM was trying to access the Metabase database using the following name "Org_Metabase" while the new database name after the upgrade was for some reason "Org_MetaDatabase".
In order to fix this, i launched "regedit" and edited the "Metabase" registry entry by going to the following registry subkey:
My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MAHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSCRM
Once that is done, restart IIS and launch CRM.
Microsoft has published a handy white paper to guide through the upgrade.
You can download the white paper here
